Why did ZachXBT deactivate his X account?
ZachXBT is a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency community with a significant track record. He has exposed over 100 cryptocurrency and NFT scams and his investigations have been helpful to law enforcement agencies. He has also been nominated as a potential Polygon Protocol Committee candidate.
The cryptocurrency investigator said he would be leaving X for an unspecified period of time. The blockchain investigator did not give a specific reason, but encouraged his followers to avoid the scam.
“X/Twitter has been disabled for an unspecified amount of time. Please do not buy these ZachXBT memecoins that people are creating because I will never issue coins,” ZachXBT said.
His actions led to speculation within the cryptocurrency community and praise for his contributions to the industry. For example, Adam Cochran, a partner at Cinneamhain Ventures, suggested that ZachXBT’s departure may be related to harassment of the project, which he termed a “pump and dump.”
“Zach is a better human being than 99% of you and thankfully he has done a great job for this space. Treating memecoins and failed projects the same as actual crimes did not sit well with him. But without him, the situation will get worse and many frauds will not be resolved without the return of assets,” Cochran added.
Similarly, cryptocurrency trader OSF emphasized that cryptocurrency detectives have done more to protect unsuspecting retail investors than most people.
“But it’s the stupid retail investors who want to blame him for over-investing in memecoins. Make it make sense,” OSF said.
ZachXBT’s account has reappeared on X, but he hasn’t posted any new content or updates to his timeline. Nonetheless, several memecoins have emerged across the Ethereum, Solana, and BNB chains. This was despite his clear statement that he would never issue tokens.
Data from Dextools shows that more than 180 memecoins have been created in an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of ZachXBT. Meanwhile, Gaslite co-founder Pop Punk shared a screenshot of a memecoin that had surged 13,000% in value on the Solana blockchain.
