The Ethereum network will undergo scheduled upgrades. Block number 13,773,000This is expected to happen in . Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Exact dates may vary depending on different block times and time zones. Please upgrade your nodes before Sunday, December 5, 2021 to account for variable block times.

What is Arrow Glacier?

The Arrow Glacier network upgrade is similar to the following: muir glacier, changing the parameters of Ice Age/Difficulty Bomb, pushing it back a few months. This was also carried out in Byzantium, Constantinople and London network upgrades. No other changes were introduced as part of Arrow Glacier.

Difficulty bombs only affect the proof-of-work network, so they only exist on the Ethereum mainnet and the Ropsten test network. with Recent Progress As Ethereum transitions to Proof-of-Stake, it has decided to postpone the mainnet bomb for now and execute the Proof-of-Stake transition on Ropsten before the bomb explodes on that network.

To learn more about the history of Arrow Glacier and difficulty bombs, see Ethereum Cat Herders’. Explainer blog post.

client version

To be compatible with the Arrow Glacier upgrade, node operators must update the client version they run to one of the versions listed below.

Reference: OpenEthereum, It was announced as deprecated earlier this year.has released support for Arrow Glacier in version number 3.3.0-rc.14, available for download. here.

At this time, we recommend that you follow the previous deprecation warning and select alternative client software. If you choose to use the OE for your Arrow Glacir upgrade, please exercise caution and independently review any codebase changes before running it in a production environment.

Upgrade Specifications and EIP

Full specifications for the upgrade can be found here: Execution specification Storage here.

Upgrade includes a single EIP. EIP-4345: Difficulty bomb postponement postponed to June 2022.

Is there anything I need to do as an Ethereum user or Ethereum holder?

If you use an exchange, web wallet service, mobile wallet service, or hardware wallet, you do not need to take any action unless you are instructed by the exchange or wallet service to take further action.

What do I do as a node operator or miner?

Download the latest version of the Ethereum client as listed in the table above.

What happens if I’m a miner or node operator and don’t participate in the upgrade?

If you are using an Ethereum client that has not been updated to the latest version (listed above), your client will be in sync with the prefork blockchain when the upgrade occurs. Depending on the existing rules, you will be stuck on an incompatible chain and will not be able to send Ether or operate on the Ethereum network after the upgrade.

What is Ethereum Land’s network upgrade?

Network upgrades are changes to the underlying Ethereum protocol to create new rules to improve the system. The decentralized nature of blockchain systems makes network upgrades more difficult. Blockchain network upgrades require collaboration and communication with the community as well as various Ethereum client developers to ensure a smooth transition.

What happens during a network upgrade?

After the community reaches a consensus on what changes should be included in the upgrade, the protocol changes will be recorded in various Ethereum clients such as geth, Erigo, Besu, and Nethermind. Protocol changes are activated at specific block numbers. Any nodes that are not upgraded to the new rule set will be discarded from the old chain where the old rules still exist.

Why “Arrow Glacier”?

Recently we’ve been using the Devcon name for network upgrades, but when we had a bomb-pushing upgrade before, we decided to change the nomenclature. To emphasize the nature of the upgrade (pushing back the “Ice Age”), the glacier was named Muir Glacier.

This upgrade follows a similar pattern. Receding Glacier was chosen because the transition to proof-of-stake is coming soon. Hence the Arrow Glacier 🏔!

thank you!

A huge thank you to the Ethereum community and all the Ethereum developers on the platform and all our clients who came together to provide their opinions, thoughts, and contributions. This may be Ethereum’s last network upgrade before switching to proof-of-stake. let’s go!

Also, thank you to many people. Hasil Gudka For cover image.
