Pseudonymous developer Shytoshi Kusama has just revealed plans to launch a special top-level domain (TLD) – the part after the dot, the last part of a web address – for the Shiba Inu (SHIB) ecosystem.
a series of tweet Kusama tells Social Media Platform X that domains are important as an identity layer on the Internet.
“For 40 years, the Internet has become more accessible to everyone. Type shib.io into your browser and you will be taken to the Shib website.
Domains allow you to build an identity layer in Shib that operates on the Internet without any special software. I don’t have a wallet. There are no plugins. There are no extensions. Just type it into your browser and it will work on your computer or phone. “Right out of the box.”
The developer said the project is currently working with Internet domain player D3 to allow domain names with the .shib extension to be used.
“We are working with D3inc to infiltrate the Internet by applying for the .shib TLD. This will allow us to leverage the infrastructure used by 5.3 billion people around the world. “Last year, the internet gained 198 million new users, but the overall cryptocurrency market only had 425 million users.”
Kusama said the plan will allow users of the dog-themed meme token to use the .shib domain for websites, blogs, online stores, email, digital asset trading, usernames on web3 platforms, and online identity verification.
“You are already using your domain across Web3. Use it to access the ecosystem, access exchanges to buy and sell SHIB, LEASH and BONE, and use it to open X to read this tweet. Now imagine if that domain ended in .shib.
“Let’s revolutionize the way the world views digital identities and break into the internet with .shib.”
