“Yesterday some of my personal XRP accounts (non-Ripple) experienced unauthorized access,” Larsen said. “femaleWe were able to quickly identify the issue and notify the exchange to freeze the affected addresses. “Law enforcement is already involved,” he said.
ZachXBT was the first to discover the suspicious leak, but attributed it to Ripple itself. On January 30, there were eight outgoing transactions ranging from 400,000 XRP ($200,000) to 69.7 million XRP.
XRP falls
The outgoing funds were then sent to cryptocurrency exchanges MEXC, Gate, Binance, Kraken, OKX, HTX and HitBTC, the cryptocurrency sleuth added.
XRP fell 4.1% to $0.50 as of 9:49 a.m. ET on the news, according to The Block’s token price page.
