Polygon Labs has launched a “Type 1 prover,” representing a technological feat that even Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin has touted as key to making the secondary layer 2 network nearly identical to the primary blockchain.

“Polygon has once again proven that it is leading the industry in the development of ZK technology by delivering the incredibly efficient Type 1 zkEVM,” Brendan Farmer, co-founder of Polygon, said in an email to CoinDesk.

Polygon advances blockchain technology.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has previously written about the different types of provers. For Type 1 provers, Ethereum The co-founder said the advantage is that it is fully compatible with Ethereum.

However, the biggest drawback is that generating a ZK proof compatible with the Ethereum network requires a lot of computational power. He also pointed out that this process can take up to several hours.

Polygon’s Type 1 prover forms part of the Project 2.0 roadmap focused on making the ecosystem more interconnected. With the introduction of this mechanism on February 8, any network compatible with Ethereum’s EVM standard can become a layer 2 network powered by zero-knowledge proofs. These networks also have access to Polygon’s broader ecosystem.

Polygon is releasing a Type-1 upgrade to its next-generation proof technology, zkEVM Prover. You can generate proof for any EVM chain, including sidechains, optimistic rollups, and even Ethereum itself.

You can then link the chain. polygonal A new aggregation layer that provides access to “all the liquidity and value of Ethereum itself,” according to a February 8 post from X. Polygon also said Type 1 provers will be able to generate ZK proofs that are compatible with Ethereum mainnet blocks.

Blockchain transaction costs will be significantly reduced

According to the post, the average cost of a transaction via a Type 1 prover is between $0.002 and $0.003. The Polygon team believes that transaction costs will decline by 30 to 50 times in the next year.

Type 1 prover is another configuration available for projects building using the Polygon Development Kit (CDK), a modular toolkit for spinning up ZK Layer-2 networks.
