K League partners with Chiliz to enhance fan participation and global promotion through blockchain technology and integrate ‘K League Fantasy’ into the Chiliz Chain.
K-League, Korea’s premier professional soccer league, has announced a multi-year strategic partnership with SportFi pioneer Chiliz. The collaboration will provide a variety of opportunities for fans to connect more closely with the league, including exclusive access to officially certified game scoring balls.
This partnership marks the K League’s entry into the Chiliz Chain ecosystem, positioning itself alongside the world’s leading sports assets and innovative developers in the blockchain space. This integration highlights the K League’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance the fan experience and expand brand awareness globally.
Chiliz Chain, known as the Sports Blockchain, is notable for being the first layer 1 protocol built specifically for the sports and entertainment sector. This technological foundation will facilitate the integration of ‘K League Fantasy’, the league’s official fantasy sports game, into the blockchain ecosystem. Fans will have the opportunity to create their own lineups and participate in competitions against others for a deeper connection to the game.
This partnership is groundbreaking not only because of the technical integration, but also because the K League will be the first sports organization to act as a node validator on the Chiliz Chain. This role plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, security, and governance of the blockchain network and represents a deep commitment to adopting blockchain technology for fan engagement.
Now in its 6th year, Chiliz has partnered with over 100 major sports organizations around the world. This technology allows partners to actively engage with and reward their fans. The list includes football giants such as Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona and others, and is expanding into other sporting areas with partnerships in mixed martial arts, tennis, Formula 1 and esports.
This collaboration extends to Tottenham Hotspur, a Premier League club and Son Heung-min’s home stadium, showing Chiliz’s growing influence in the sports industry.
K League Secretary General Cho Yeon-sang expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the league’s commitment to innovation and improving fan experience through Web3 technology. Chiliz CEO Alexandre Dreyfus emphasized the importance of Korea to Chiliz and expressed confidence in the K-League’s potential to further grow and expand globally through this strategic partnership.
