Officially, the Worldcoin Foundation is planning to launch a new Layer 2, but Worldcoin was primarily developed and promoted by Tools for Humanity.
Altman, CEO of popular artificial intelligence company OpenAI, is a co-founder of Tools for Humanity. The Worldcoin project is dedicated to assigning World IDs to people after proving they are human through an iris scan. Those who sign up will receive cryptocurrency in the form of WLD tokens.
The Worldcoin project’s vision revolves around the idea that the future health of the Internet requires a system that distinguishes between human and non-human actors.
