Match System CEO Andrei Kutin announced the full recovery of $68 million in stolen cryptocurrency assets from Cryptex.
summary: $68 million from incidents related to the “Dust” attack that took place on May 3, 2024, was fully returned to victims today with the participation of cybersecurity agency Match Systems and the Cryptex cryptocurrency exchange. Currently, the victim has not filed any complaints against the perpetrator.
On May 3, 2024, one of the cryptocurrency whales fell victim to a classic dust attack (or “dandruff attack”), resulting in the theft of 1,155.28 WBTC, worth over $68 million.
The stolen tokens were received by unknown fraudsters at address 0xd9A1C3788D81257612E2581A6ea0aDa244853a91, from which the funds were moved to address 0xfB5bcA56A3824E58A2c77217fb667AE67000b7A6. The stolen funds then began to be distributed in parts to the addresses of several fraudsters.
The victim immediately contacted Match Systems for assistance. As a result of the quick work, the assets were located and returned to Cryptocurrency Whale in full in just one week.
This incident perfectly illustrates that if cryptocurrency assets are stolen, contacting a professional immediately significantly increases the chances of victims of cryptocurrency fraud getting their assets back.
Moreover, the sooner a victim seeks help, the more likely they are to get their stolen funds back in full.
