Sei V2 Release Introduction

The highly anticipated Sei V2, offering an upgrade to a live blockchain, will be released soon. This upgrade is expected to bring the first high-performance parallel EVMs into production, pending the governance approval process.

The rollout will occur in three phases, each carefully designed to ensure optimal network performance, set accurate expectations, and minimize risk. Sei contributors take a thoughtful approach to rollouts, allowing them to conduct rigorous testing, monitor network stability, and ensure that all third-party infrastructure is ready for users to use Sei at scale.

Step 1: Governance

Sei, a permissionless, open-source, delegated proof-of-stake network, is governed by SEI token holders. Sei Labs engineers will inform validators of V2’s readiness for mainnet adoption through on-chain proposals. This begins the governance approval process following numerous audits and ongoing optimizations found on the Sei V2 public Devnet.

Phase 2: Alpha release, stability and third-party infrastructure deployment

Once the governance approval process is approved, validators will begin the software upgrade and the existing Sei Pacific-1 mainnet will be upgraded to “v2”. At this stage, it becomes possible to deploy EVM-based contracts and begin infrastructure integration in Sei. Existing applications and tokens will continue to function as before the upgrade.

This phase is expected to take place over days rather than weeks, during which Sei Labs will monitor and report on chain stability. Certain features, such as bridges, will require additional time to be deployed on mainnet for the community to utilize.

Step 3: Prepare for v2

Once Stable v2 is achieved, an announcement will be made via the official Sei Twitter account stating that critical infrastructure such as RPC, bridges, indexers, and multi-signatures are ready. Initially, block gas limits are set for stability. As demand increases, this limit will be increased to meet the needs of the community.

This upgrade represents significant progress, but our work to continue optimizing Sei does not end here. The ultimate goal is to build a blockchain that can support consumer-grade applications and serve millions of users.

Stay tuned for further updates on the release of Sei V2.
