Gresini Racing has launched a fan-based motorsports sponsorship program in partnership with MotoGP Guru and SPORTPASS, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands. This initiative allows MotoGP fans to purchase individual team sponsorship packages from €125.
In an interview with Cointelegraph, Graeme Warring, founder of WePlay Media, discussed the biggest challenges in launching a MotoGP sponsorship package that is accessible to fans.
“The biggest challenge, first and foremost, is selling. Finding product or market fit is always a challenge when launching something new that has never been done before.”
The MotoGP Guru’s gaming studio, WePlay Media, has developed the organizational infrastructure and field team needed to “add ‘Life’ to the IRL experience,” according to Warring.

Meaning of decentralization
By deciding to offer sponsorships at a fraction of the normal cost, you can make this product available to a much wider audience and reduce the risk of centralization.
As a fundamental buzzword in the cryptocurrency world, Warring said fan sponsorship programs have the potential to decentralize ownership of MotoGP teams and allow the fan base to participate much more.
“Decentralization as a concept is at the core of this program. Instead of large corporate sponsors dominating the sponsorship space, we are revolutionizing the decentralization thesis where fans directly own the fan experience.”

Discussing the future impact decentralization will have on the world of professional sports, Warring told Cointelegraph:
“Who knows how this will turn out? Let’s see. Decentralization has played an important role in leveling the playing field in many ways, and it will do the same here in professional sports.”
