Combining gaming and charity: ‘Food Rescue World’ launches
The Sandbox, a leading decentralized gaming virtual world and part of Animoca Brands, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Hong Kong-based charity Food Angel. According to Animoca Brands, this partnership resulted in ‘Food Rescue World’, a unique gaming experience designed to combine virtual entertainment and real-world charity work in the metaverse.
World Food Rescue Week 2024: Metaverse Initiative
To celebrate World Food Rescue Week 2024, players are invited to explore the ‘World of Food Rescue’ within The Sandbox. The game features Food Angel’s mascot, Rice Boy, who guides players through various quests. These missions include collecting surplus food from markets, processing it in a central kitchen, and delivering meals to underprivileged families. This immersive experience aims to raise awareness of food conservation and the importance of sharing surplus food with those in need.
Incentives for Players
Players who successfully complete all quests in ‘Food Rescue World’ can obtain coupons from local partners such as Lalamove and Maxim’s. These coupons can be used to directly support Food Angel’s initiatives, bridging the gap between virtual activity and real-world impact.

To further support this initiative, members of The Sandbox Hong Kong team visited Food Angel’s kitchen earlier this month to help prepare food ingredients and meal boxes. This real-world collaboration aims to bridge efforts between the virtual and real worlds. Sandbox’s trusted partners GoGoBox and Chord Hero also got involved, engaging the wider community in this charity effort.
