As the summer begins, the Render Network takes time to reflect on its accomplishments for spring 2024, highlighting network updates, releases, and Render Network Proposals (RNPs) that advance its decentralized platform.

Render network metrics

Render Network has seen significant year-over-year growth, particularly in key metrics such as network compute capacity. Comparing Q1 2024 to Q1 2023, the network’s available GPU performance has increased significantly as more intensive GPU rendering jobs are submitted. Despite the significant increase in frames processed, the growth in RENDER usage outpaced the number of frames rendered.

rendered frame

  • There were 2,495,084 frames rendered in Q1 2024 compared to 2,119,813 frames in Q1 2023, a 17.7% year-over-year growth.

Rendering used

  • There were 816,602 RENDERs used in the first quarter of 2024 compared to 509,469 in the first quarter of 2023, a 60.28% year-on-year growth.

Despite a 19.4% decrease in job creation compared to the previous year, with 45,966 jobs in Q1 2023 compared to 37,049 in Q1 2024, the average RENDER used per job increased significantly due to a decrease in small frame rendering jobs.

OctaneBench Growth

Year-over-year growth in OctaneBench more than doubled, increasing the network average OctaneBench from 786,706 in Q1 2023 to 1,665,339 in Q1 2024, an increase of 111.69%. Peak OctaneBench increased 136.51% year over year from 884,505 to 2,091,922. .

Average and maximum OctaneBench compute performance per job also increased by 114.38% and 137.26%, respectively, indicating higher performance across the network of artists leveraging Render’s distributed GPU compute power.

In March 2024, the network recorded its second monthly figure with over 1 million frames rendered and over 400,000 RENDERs used, marking a significant milestone in the network’s history.

major milestones

At NVIDIA’s GTC, the leading GPU computing and AI event, Render Network made several groundbreaking announcements, including the addition of Emad Mostaque. Render Network Advisory Board RNP-011 Written by: PIWA Create millions of 3D educational assets. This proposal aims to develop a new generative AI model trained on scenes processed using a render network.

Founder Jules Urbach presented an updated vision for the convergence of 3D graphics and AI during his annual NVIDIA GTC lecture, discussing 3D graphics, AI, GPU computing, spatial media, and changes in the creative economy.

The talk was followed by a major expansion of the Roddenberry archive for Apple Vision Pro. U.S.S. Enterprise: discovery And The Promenade Star Trek: Deep Space NineAll rendered on the render network.

New render network features

RNP-012: Several new features have been introduced through the RNP process, including the Render Network Wizard for Maxon Cinema 4D. This simplifies the workflow of submitting render jobs directly from Cinema 4D to Render Network. This initiative aims to reduce network congestion and node failure rates by proactively preventing task failures.

The Network Wizard has been extended to support Blender Cycles as described in RNP-014: Integrating Blender Cycles into a Render Network. This integration makes Render accessible to millions of Blender users.

At BCON LA, Jules Urbach introduced RNP-014 and announced free access to Octane Prime’s render network for Blender users, bringing high-performance, on-demand distributed computing to millions of users.

Other new features

Render Network has introduced the ability to download to third-party storage providers like Dropbox, with plans to support all major cloud storage providers in the future. The Render Network Redshift integration beta has also been introduced for testing.

Additionally, automated Render Network node payments and the Render Network Dashboard have been released, enhancing the Burn-Mint-Equilibrium (BME) implementation passed in RNP-001. Integration of the io.net compute client into BME is expected to be completed in the summer.

The Best of the Metaverse — Render Edition

  • Octane X appeared at WWDC. — While Apple is launching the M4 apple intelligence, unveils the future of mobile AI at scale on next-generation Apple Silicon. Optimized for M4, Octane X gives artists using next-generation Apple hardware access to high-performance distributed GPU computing in Render.
  • NAB’s WAI-000 VR — Render Foundation grant recipients presented WAI, a groundbreaking VR short film that showcases the future of spatial media, at NAB. Fully rendered on the render network, WAI VR is a compelling 3D experience for Apple Vision Pro.
  • Render network used in the MSG Sphere experience — Render Power user Brilly shared her immersive advertising experience with MSG Sphere rendered on Render Network.
  • Render Network featured in Consensus & Token 2049 — The Render Foundation has participated in high-profile talks and events at major blockchain events, joining Solana Foundation, DePIN, and decentralized AI leaders on panels.
  • Render Basic Subsidy — Expanded growth by supporting several new grant classes with larger budgets for ambitious projects in 3D rendering, spatial computing, and AI.
