According to Polygon Technology, Composability Labs is making significant progress in decentralized finance (DeFi) by developing Spark, a high-speed on-chain central limit order book (CLOB) designed to leverage the state minimization capabilities of Polygon (MATIC) Miden.
Solving Blockchain State Bloat
State bloat is a persistent problem in blockchain technology, where data accumulates as usage increases, slowing down the system and increasing transaction costs. Polygon Miden solves this problem by incorporating state minimization, allowing blocks to be produced and verified without having to store the entire state of the zkVM rollup. Instead, using zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), users can store their own data, and the rollup only tracks verifiable commitments to that data.
Introducing Spark
Spark is a decentralized order book operating on Polygon Miden, utilizing a state-minimization design. This approach aims to optimize order book implementations in the cryptocurrency space, thereby increasing the efficiency and transparency of DeFi transactions. Polygon Miden’s unique architecture supports this by ensuring that all executions occur on-chain, avoiding the common tradeoffs associated with off-chain solutions.
Spark Advantages
Spark offers several key benefits to DeFi users:
- On-chain execution: It provides greater transparency and security compared to off-chain solutions.
- Advanced order types and market depth: Supports complex order types and provides a clear view of market depth and liquidity essential for professional traders.
- transparency: Easy access to transaction data increases trust and verifiability.
- Reduced trade-offs: Mitigate transparency and security risks associated with off-chain order books.
- Trading Strategy Support: We have incorporated standard practices for efficient and effective trading operations.
Design Approaches for Permanent and Spot Markets
Composability Labs is dedicated to advancing on-chain DeFi implementation through high-performance order book-based protocols. Polygon Miden’s account abstraction and note architecture enhances user experience by ensuring efficiency and sovereignty. The state-minimizing design enables on-chain CLOBs to be executed locally, which is essential for spot and perpetual market development.
Additional features such as on-chain price oracles are planned to enhance the functionality of the perpetual market, allowing multiple notes to be consumed in a single transaction, allowing for simultaneous trading and further improving efficiency.
Understanding Polygon Midden
Polygon Miden combines elements of Bitcoin and Ethereum, using customizable UTXOs (Unspent Transaction Outputs) and client-side proofs of transactions enabled by ZKPs. This design allows for parallel processing of transactions, greatly improving performance and scalability.
Polygon Miden’s innovative approach to blockchain design and state-minimizing environments make it a promising platform for the future of DeFi, especially for orderbook-based protocols like Spark. As Composability Labs continues to develop Spark, the Ethereum DeFi environment stands to benefit from improved transaction infrastructure and improved user experience.
