- StarkWare has verified the first zero-knowledge (ZK) proof for Bitcoin.
- This is part of the core plan of Starknet developers to expand Bitcoin to the masses.
According to details posted on X on Wednesday, StarkWare has achieved a historic feat by completing the first zero-knowledge proof verification on the Bitcoin network.
Blockchain developers say that after months of exploration, developers have verified the first ZK proof using the new STARK validator Stwo Verifier on the OP_CAT-supported Bitcoin Signet, the first step in the quest to scale Bitcoin.
Scaling Bitcoin for Mass Use
StarkWare announced in June that it plans to use ZK proofs to scale Bitcoin for mass adoption. The new scaling solution will allow dApps to choose between Bitcoin or Ethereum.
“Starknet will be the first network to simultaneously settle on both Bitcoin and Ethereum, scaling Bitcoin to thousands of transactions per second. This will happen within six months of the potential Bitcoin upgrade, OP_CAT,” wrote StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson.
In June, StarkWare awarded a $1 million grant to support research activities centered around OP_CAT.
“My dream is for Bitcoin to achieve the scale necessary to sustainably serve everyone. This includes being open for everyone to participate, with no financial barriers to entry. I believe this must be done alongside Satoshi’s unwavering commitment to decentralization and security,” Ben-Sasson added.
