NBA legend and Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen is getting thousands of responses on social media after posting a question about cryptocurrency.
The retired six-time NBA champion posted a simple question on social media platform X over the weekend: Ethereum (ETH) or Solana (SOL)?
But the Hall of Fame inductee’s question didn’t get a simple answer, generating 5,600 responses, a mix of responses from prominent members of the crypto community, some of whom didn’t even offer an opinion on either of the top two smart contract platforms.
For example, Jack Mallers, CEO and founder of Bitcoin wallet and payments app Strike, suggested Pippen consider BTC instead.
“Why not both?” asked Chris Burniske, a partner at venture capital firm Placeholder and a cryptocurrency investor.
And Billy Marcus, also known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, co-founder of Dogecoin (DOGE), wasted no time promoting his project, responding, “Of course it’s dog coin.”
Pippen attempted to spark another debate on Monday when he asked, “Is it a meme coin or a utility coin?” The former Chicago Bulls small forward hinted that “something big” is coming to blockchain, but noted that it’s still a secret.
Pippen has long been an avid supporter of cryptocurrencies, even launching his own collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in late 2022. According to NFT marketplace OpenSea, the collection has a total trading volume of 435 ETH.
