Former President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is set to speak at the upcoming Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville.
The speech is expected to be closely watched by many in the industry as President Trump works to build support among crypto fans. A recent Gemini poll found that a majority of people said support for crypto would influence which candidate they support in November.
Trump’s speech was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Central Time. Interested viewers can watch the live stream provided by Bitcoin Magazine at the link below. According to Bitcoin 2024’s news desk, the former president’s speech has now been postponed because a “special guest” is scheduled to arrive.
President Trump has been pushing into the digital asset industry in recent weeks: he has met with Bitcoin miners, nominated cryptocurrency-friendly JD Vance as his vice presidential candidate, accepted cryptocurrency donations for his campaign, and released several sets of NFTs.
Trump may have to convince some voters that he has changed his mind about Bitcoin, given his anti-cryptocurrency rhetoric during the 2020 presidential campaign. Democratic Rep. Wiley Nickel pointed to Trump’s past comments earlier in the day calling cryptocurrencies a “fraud.”
“Folks, let me tell you something. And I want to say it as politely and respectfully as I can. Donald Trump has been president for four years and has done absolutely nothing about this issue. And I can tell you right now that he’s talking complete bullshit,” Nickel said.
