One Trading, a digital asset exchange headquartered in the Netherlands, has been granted an Organized Trading Facility License by the Netherlands Financial Markets Authority (AFM) on July 29, 2024.

The company can now offer a range of innovative financial products to the European market, most notably offshore cryptocurrency futures trading.

Commenting on the development, Joshua Barraclough, Founder and CEO of One Trading, said: “This license positions us well to introduce new regulated products and provide institutional-grade solutions to all client types, starting with BTC and ETH products, which currently do not have an EU regulated venue.”

The EU’s only permanent futures trading platform

The newly acquired license will make One Trading the EU’s only permanent futures trading platform. It will also be the first cash-settled perpetual securities platform in Europe, including the UK.

“One Trading’s technology seamlessly integrates custody and settlement on DLT, making it the first EU exchange to allow crypto assets to be used as collateral for trading regulated financial instruments,” the company said.

This license will make the company the first regulated European derivatives exchange available to retail clients.

Moreover, the Milan-based company’s acquisition of the AFM license represents an important milestone in the development of the European cryptocurrency market.

“This is just the beginning of our journey to redefine the landscape of digital assets and traditional securities trading,” Barraclough added.

The company will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of cryptocurrency derivatives in Europe by offering offshore cryptocurrency futures trading.

Bitpanda Pro Connection with One Trading

One Trading traces its roots back to Bitpanda Pro, founded by cryptocurrency platform Bitpanda in 2019.

In June 2023, the company was spun off after a successful Series A funding round raising $32.5 million.

The round was led by Valar Ventures, a firm co-founded by PayPal co-founder and technology investor Peter Thiel.

Thiel is also involved with Praxis, a project to build a cryptocurrency-based city in the Mediterranean region.

Valar Ventures has supported Bitpanda through three funding rounds.
