“Telegram’s browser will power decentralized websites hosted on TON, as well as all of our mobile and native desktop apps. This will allow us to bring Web3 to our roughly 1 billion monthly active users immediately,” the Telegram team wrote in a blog post on Wednesday.
Not only will Telegram users be able to send “stars” to friends in the form of a mini-app payment system, but the platform’s app store will also see improvements, including search options, app previews from developers, and the ability to share mini-apps as user content called Stories.
Durov initially announced plans to implement an in-app browser and mini-app store on July 19. A number of Telegram games have launched this year, including the web-based tap-to-earn game Catizen, which raised $16 million from in-app purchases.
Catizen and Telegram’s other popular game, Hamster Kombat, uses The Open Network’s native cryptocurrency, Toncoin (TON), which is trading at $6.79 after rising 1.05% in the last 24 hours, according to The Block Prices.
