Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) pledged Wednesday during a digital town hall meeting to pass cryptocurrency legislation by the end of the year.

““I don’t think Washington can afford to turn a blind eye to crypto, stick its head in the sand and do nothing,” Schumer said during the Crypto4Harris livestream. “My goal is to get something through the Senate by the end of the year and become law, and I believe we can do that.”

He explained that failure to act “risks cryptocurrencies flowing overseas to the lowest common denominator countries with no regulation at all.” “I think we need to strike a balance between encouraging innovation and providing common-sense safeguards for cryptocurrencies,” Senator Schumer said.

The 90-minute live stream featured industry experts, U.S. senators and representatives, governors, and candidates for public office. Several participants spoke live, but many submitted pre-recorded speeches.

The theme of the event was “Resetting” Vice President Kamala Harris and the future Harris administration, emphasizing that the cryptocurrency space does not belong to one party.

“I speak for many of my friends and colleagues in this space and our industry to ensure that crypto regulation is positive and bipartisan,” said investor Anthony Scaramucci, founder and managing partner of crypto-focused investment firm SkyBridge Capital.

“We keep this less tribal. We talk about the great things that can happen to the industry if we can get bipartisan commitment to cryptocurrency regulation,” he added.

Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-North Carolina) agreed.

“Digital assets and blockchain technology are not partisan issues,” Nickel said. “If we make this a political football, we’ll only set Congress back decades. That’s why I’ve focused on keeping this a bipartisan issue.”

“There’s only one candidate running for president who has called cryptocurrencies a fraud, and that’s Donald Trump,” Nickel said. “Donald Trump is a complete idiot.”

Many speakers could not help but criticize the Republican Party.

Billionaire and Shark Tank personality Mark Cuban said at the event that “supporting crypto isn’t about lining the pockets of elite Bitcoin Maxis.” “Crypto isn’t about elites, it’s about egalitarianism. And that’s a huge opportunity for us, because the rest of us need crypto, and the Republicans don’t care.”

Former President Donald Trump and his campaign have taken a bold approach to the digital asset industry. Make several promisesFrom promoting domestic bitcoin mining and creating strategic bitcoin stores to ending what critics are calling the current administration’s “cryptocurrency war,” it has targeted Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler.

But despite the clear partisan divide, Democrats still have “Obtainable.” And Vice President Kamala Harris’ team: “Cooperative effort“It’s to get closer to the industry.

Host of the call Said Decode last week“This is about taking new steps.”
