The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has warned the public about phishing emails impersonating Daxing Bank, urging caution and providing safety tips.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public warning about phishing emails claiming to be from Dah Sing Bank, Limited, according to a press release from the HKMA. The agency emphasizes the importance of public vigilance in light of such fraudulent activities.

Details of the phishing scam

A press release from Dah Sing Bank, reported to the HKMA, warns that these phishing emails are designed to trick recipients into providing sensitive personal information. The HKMA stresses that the bank will never send emails or SMS messages containing hyperlinks that direct customers to the bank’s website for transactions. The bank will also never request sensitive information such as login credentials or one-time passwords (OTPs) via phone, email or SMS.

Steps for Affected Individuals

Any individual who inadvertently shared personal information or conducted financial transactions in response to such phishing emails is advised to contact Dah Sing Bank immediately using the contact details provided in the press release. They should also report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force Crime Information Centre at 2860 5012.

HKMA’s anti-phishing efforts

The HKMA works closely with financial institutions to protect the public from such fraud. The authority’s website provides resources and guidance to help you recognize and avoid fraudulent activity. For more information, visit the HKMA website.

HKMA’s warning serves as an important reminder for the public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of communications purporting to come from banks. Individuals can protect themselves from phishing scams by being informed and following recommended safety practices.
