Learn how to integrate USDC payments into your ecommerce platform by implementing seamless, instant transactions using Wagmi and Circle’s programmable wallets.

In the rapidly evolving world of e-commerce, providing a seamless payment experience is critical for both merchants and customers. According to Circle, integrating USD Coin (USDC) payments will provide online stores with a globally accessible alternative payment method that accelerates cash flow with near-instant settlement.

How it works

When your customers initiate a payment, connect your wallet and use Programmable Wallets to send USDC directly to a wallet address created specifically for your business. This wallet is automatically generated via script, so all transactions are secure and organized.

Step-by-step integration

Step 1: Create a new Wagmi project

To get started, create a new Wagmi project using TypeScript to build the frontend. Open a terminal and run the following command:

npm create wagmi@latest

This will build a new Wagmi project with the required configuration.

Step 2: Install required dependencies

Go to your project directory and install the required dependencies by running:

npm install

Step 3: Organize your project files

Set up the files needed for your project folder structure. Create a `config` folder in the parent directory, then move and modify the `wagmi.ts` file appropriately.

Step 4: Create a component

Create a components folder in your project directory and add the following files:

  • PayButton.tsx: This will handle the payment button functionality.
  • ProductCard.tsx: This will display the product details.

Step 5: Create a landing page

Create a new file named `page.tsx` in the src/pages directory and import the ProductCard component to render it, providing a user interface for your customers.

Step 6: Add external API calls

Let’s take advantage of the programmable wallet by creating a new file named `createWallet.js` in the src/pages/api directory. This will handle external API calls to create a wallet.

Step 7: Configure environment variables

Create a .env file in your project root and add your Circle Web3 service credentials.

CIRCLE_API_KEY=
CIRCLE_ENTITY_SECRET=

Step 8: Run the application

Start the development server with the following command:

npm run dev

Step 9: Access the application

Open a browser and go to http://localhost:3000 to see your application in action.

conclusion

Circle’s programmable wallet simplifies the process of embedding wallet functionality into your application, making it easy to accept USDC as a payment method for your business. Using the createWallet.js script and PayButton.tsx component, merchants can provide a seamless payment experience to their global customers with near-instant settlement.
