an Ethereum-based decentralized messaging platform, is launching a layer 2 rollup solution in partnership with Consensys-backed company Linea.
Status raised $100 million for its native SNT token in an ICO in 2017. Meanwhile, Linea launched last year as a zkEVM Layer 2 blockchain backed by blockchain development firm Consensys.
According to a press release shared with The Block, they are developing a Layer 2 network that will work alongside Linea’s zkEVM chain, called Status Network. “By launching Status Network, we plan to build the infrastructure needed to support a thriving, decentralized ecosystem of apps and services,” said Cyprien Grau, a core contributor at Status.
Additionally, Status contributors interact with Linea’s open source code, actively leveraging the codebase to maintain parallel versions.
The Status team will also support Linea’s ongoing engineering efforts, focusing on diversifying client and validator support and interoperability between Status Network and Linea.
“Partnering with Status is a natural fit given their contributions to core Ethereum operations and their consumer-centric focus with the Status app,” said Nicolas Liochon, Linea Global Lead. Nimbus, a popular consensus client for Ethereum developed by Status, will be adapted to function as a Linea client.
This partnership focuses on decentralizing Linea’s sequencing and verification process, and supports initiatives in the areas of public funds, social applications, GameFi, and governance experimentation.
