The HKMA has warned the public about fraudulent websites and phishing emails targeting customers of Public Bank (Hong Kong) Limited.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public warning about fraudulent websites and phishing emails related to Public Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. This warning aims to protect consumers from potential fraud, as reported by the HKMA.

Details of fraudulent activity

According to the HKMA, fraudulent websites and phishing emails have been reported and are being investigated. The HKMA has provided a hyperlink to a press release on its official website for more information. The authority emphasizes that legitimate banks will never send SMS or emails containing hyperlinks directing customers to the bank’s website for transactions. They will also never request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs) via phone calls, emails or SMS.

Consumer Advice

HKMA advises anyone who has shared personal information or conducted financial transactions through fraudulent websites or in response to phishing emails to immediately contact Public Bank (Hong Kong) Limited using the contact details provided in the press release. Victims should also report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force Crime Commission Information Centre on 2860 5012.

The HKMA warning highlights the importance of being vigilant and cautious when dealing with unsolicited communications requesting personal or financial information. Consumers are urged to contact their banks directly through official channels to verify the authenticity of such communications.

Related incidents

This warning comes as phishing and fraudulent activity targeting banking customers increases worldwide. Financial institutions and regulators continue to remind the public to be aware of these threats and take the necessary precautions to protect their personal and financial information.
