Former President Donald Trump told X that he will announce a plan on Thursday that will help the U.S. establish itself as a leader in cryptocurrency.
The Republican presidential candidate also mentioned World Liberty Financial, a DeFi project promoted by his sons, in his post.
“This afternoon, I will be announcing a plan to make the United States the crypto capital of the planet,” Trump said in the post, which ended with the World Liberty Financial logo appearing.
Trump’s sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, first teased upcoming announcements related to cryptocurrencies and DeFi a few weeks ago, and their father has since tried to create buzz around the impending announcement.
About an hour before Trump’s post on Thursday, a warning was shared on World Liberty Financial’s Telegram channel warning people to be on the lookout for scams. “We have become aware of some ads being circulated on Telegram impersonating us and offering fake airdrops or token sales,” it said. “We are not currently doing airdrops or selling tokens.”

By July 2024, Trump appears increasingly interested in courting crypto-savvy voters and engaging on an entrepreneurial level. A collection of NFTs featuring Trump’s likeness have been on the market since late 2022.
At the Bitcoin conference, Trump promised to fire Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler. He also said that if elected in November, the U.S. would stop selling its Bitcoin holdings and create a “strategic Bitcoin reserve.”
It’s still unclear what services World Liberty Financial will offer people and how Trump will be involved.
