“This collaboration is about expanding what’s possible at NEAR and empowering developers to create solutions that are not only powerful but also privacy-preserving,” Nillion CEO Alex Page said in a statement.
Nillion is a decentralized network built for general data computation and processing to help blockchain (and other) applications scale. In short, the privacy tools allow developers to move computational work off-chain, which opens up a “design space” of possibilities using blockchain, especially for AI experiments running on NEAR, Page told The Block.
Many decentralized AI projects have leveraged NEAR because the protocol’s founder, Ilya Polosukin, helped create the open-source machine learning platform TensorFlow. Polosukin said he hopes the protocol will become “the home of user-owned AI.”
“NEAR’s vision of expanding self-sovereignty into AI aligns perfectly with Nillion’s privacy-first approach,” the page said. “This aligned vision of a future where users control their data while benefiting from new AI applications made NEAR an obvious partner for collaboration.”
