Five-time Grammy Award-nominated American singer, rapper, and songwriter Ty Dolla Sign has entered the ever-changing world of blockchain. The artist, who has been curious about cryptocurrencies for some time, lost his cryptocurrency virginity on October 8, 2024, when he splashed 3.2 million Tron (TRX) tokens on the popular TRX meme token.
According to on-chain records, the hip-hop artist spent $502,000 in a single transaction, snagging 1.66 million SunDog (SUNDOG). However, beginner’s luck did not affect Ty Dolla Sign, who accidentally transferred all his digital belongings to the address of Tron’s SUNDOG token smart contract.
A novice celebrity cryptocurrency enthusiast mistook Tron’s official contract address for a TRX wallet address. As a result, all tokens were lost with no possibility of recovery.
Here’s how TRON’s Justin Sun saved the world.
After SUNDOG did not appear in his wallet for several hours, Ty Dolla Sign expressed his concern about X by asking the audience: “Hey, where’s my $SUNDOG? I sent it to my TRX address but it doesn’t show up???” Soon after, the rapper received multiple confirmations that his beloved dog-themed meme coins had been burned.
After admitting this, Ty Dolla Sign became desperate and asked: “So it’s gone?? What should I do now?” “Just hit the restart button,” replied some sneaky users. Fortunately, a few hours later, Tron founder Justin Sun provided some real help.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of everything.” Sun insisted, sending the musician an amount equivalent to his losses. The entertainer thanked Tron’s founder for his act of good Samaritan. Ty Dolla $ign acquired an additional 1.64 million SUNDOG tokens, promising to “put them right back into SUNDOG.”
On the flip side
- Potentially, American celebrity Ty Dolla $ign could have acquired more SUNDOG tokens than her original investment with $500,000.
- He purchased 1.66 million SUNDOG cryptocurrency for $502,000 on October 8, 2024, but today’s 7% price drop allowed him to accumulate 2.11 million.
Why This Matters
Strong, sustainable cryptocurrency communities are built by helping each other rather than exploiting individual lack of knowledge or human error.
