The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a warning about fraudulent websites impersonating DBS Bank (Hong Kong), urging the public to be wary of online scams.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public warning against fraudulent websites falsely claiming to be associated with DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. This scam has been reported to the HKMA and highlights the growing problem of online banking fraud.

Details of fraudulent activity

According to the HKMA, the fraudulent website is part of a scheme to defraud customers by impersonating DBS Bank (Hong Kong). HKMA has provided a hyperlink to the official press release on its website for those seeking further information.

Warning about phishing attempts

HKMA emphasizes that banks, including DBS, will never send SMS or emails containing hyperlinks directing users to carry out transactions on the website. Additionally, the bank does not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords via phone, email, or SMS.

Guidance for Affected Individuals

If you have unintentionally provided personal information or made a financial transaction through a fraudulent site, please contact DBS Bank immediately using the contact information provided in the official press release. You should also report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Crime Branch Information Center at 2860 5012.

As online fraud becomes increasingly sophisticated, the HKMA’s warning serves as an important reminder to the public to remain vigilant and cautious when engaging in online banking activities. The HKMA continues to work closely with financial institutions to protect consumers from fraudulent activities.
