The EOS network has marked an important milestone in its development by completing the Spring 1.0 hard fork and launching the exSat mainnet. Major updates were discussed at the October Block Producers meeting.

The EOS network has achieved an important milestone by launching the exSat mainnet following the successful completion of the Spring 1.0 hard fork. According to eosnetwork.com, these developments were the focus of the recent monthly EOS Block Producers (BP) meeting, attended by prominent network participants including the EOS Network Foundation (ENF), EOS Labs, and middleware.

Meeting highlights and key discussions

Held on October 16, 2024, the meeting was attended by 19 block producers and a total of 30 attendees. Beatrice Wang, Communications Manager at ENF, kicked off the meeting and outlined the agenda, which included discussions on hard forks, UTXO synchronization, and exSat mainnet launch.

Spring 1.0 hard fork performance

Yves La Rose, CEO of ENF, highlighted the Spring 1.0 hard fork featuring the new Savanna consensus algorithm as a significant upgrade. The switchover was completed within 40 minutes and maintained stability despite the network facing its highest ever load. The exSat team performed rigorous testing of the network’s new infrastructure by synchronizing 840,000 UTXO data Bitcoin blocks to RAM in less than 48 hours.

exSat mainnet launch

The exSat mainnet was successfully launched, synchronizing Bitcoin blocks at a controlled rate. As the initial phase progresses, the focus will be on significantly increasing the connected Bitcoin hash rate. This launch aims to improve the capacity and performance of the network.

Graymass Middleware Integration

Aaron Cox of Greymass provided an update on Metamask integration efforts to facilitate EOS, EVM, and exSat account management. The integration audit has been completed and the team is working with Consensys to publish the EOS wallet Snap for Metamask.

future development

Looking ahead, Yves La Rose discussed the Spring 2.0 roadmap, which includes RAM optimization and decentralized wallet development. Discussions are also ongoing regarding a potential EOS rebrand, with further updates expected at a future meeting.
