The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is warning the public about phishing messages involving Livi Bank, urging caution and providing guidance on data breach prevention.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public warning about phishing messages involving Livi Bank Limited. The announcement highlights the growing threat of cyber fraud and the need for increased vigilance among bank customers.

Emphasis on phishing threats

According to the HKMA, these phishing messages have been reported and are designed to trick recipients into revealing sensitive personal information. Authorities emphasize that legitimate banks, including Livi Bank, will never send emails or SMS with links directing users to perform transactions on the bank’s website. Additionally, the bank will never ask you for personal information such as login credentials or one-time password (OTP) via phone, email or SMS.

Public advisory and precautionary measures

The HKMA advises the public to exercise caution and check any communications that appear suspicious. If an individual has inadvertently shared personal data or conducted a transaction through one of these phishing messages, he or she should contact Livi Bank immediately using the official contact information provided in the bank’s press release. Affected individuals are also urged to report such incidents to the Hong Kong Police Crime Investigation Unit Information Center at 2860 5012.

Ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime

This warning is part of the HKMA’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and protect financial consumers. Authorities continue to work with local banks and law enforcement to strengthen cybersecurity measures and educate the public on how to identify and prevent phishing scams. For more information, please refer to the HKMA official website (https://www.hkma.gov.hk/eng/news-and-media/press-releases/2024/10/20241029-3/).
