Character.AI announced the appointment of Sunita Verma as its new Chief Technology Officer. This is an important step in our mission to advance personalized AI entertainment. According to the Character.AI blog, Verma’s extensive experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and distributed systems brings him to a pivotal role on the Character.AI team.
Sunita Verma’s Expertise
Sunita Verma joins Character.AI from Google, where she was vice president and general manager of Google Core Labs. Her role was to drive innovation in engineering and new platform development, with a particular emphasis on generative AI and large-scale language models (LLMs). Verma also played a key role in leading initiatives such as the launch of responsive search ads across Google’s Search and Shopping ads business. Her contributions extended to Google’s Payments and Decentralized Infrastructure teams, impacting numerous consumer internet products.
Strategic Leadership for Character.AI
In his new role at Character.AI, Verma will advance the company’s technology systems to deliver more fun and safe product experiences. This move is part of Character.AI’s broader strategy to create engaging and immersive spaces for users.
Building a strong leadership team
Verma’s appointment follows the hiring of another former Google executive, Erin Teague, as chief product officer last October. Both leaders bring extensive experience developing industry-leading consumer products, strengthening Character.AI’s commitment to innovation and user safety.
As Character.AI continues to expand its leadership team, we remain focused on the next chapter of personalized entertainment. Additional updates on the company’s priorities and developments will be released later this month, as outlined in the roadmap post.
