Classic technical analysis indicators suggest that Bitcoin (BTC) could see additional upside volatility as its price revisits key levels.
John Bollinger, creator of the Bollinger Bands volatility indicator, said in a post on X on December 18 that Bitcoin is positioned for a bullish breakout.
Bitcoin Bollinger Bands could lead to a “walk up”.
Bitcoin, which hit an all-time high above $108,000 on December 17, broke the upper limit of the Bollinger Bands (BB) indicator, a barrier it had not reached since mid-November, data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView showed. .
According to Bollinger, this is an encouraging sign for Bitcoin. The Bollinger Bands indicator uses the standard deviation around a simple moving average to determine both possible price ranges and volatility.
Over the past few days, the BTC/USD pair has had its daily candlestick touching the upper BB band. When this happens, it could indicate an imminent reversal to the central band or sudden upward volatility.
Bitcoin’s recent rise in the upper band adds weight to hopes that the latter scenario may now come true.
“Bitcoin BTCUSD Features Bollinger Band Tutorial,” Bollinger said alongside the chart.
“A classic Bollinger band squeeze goes above the upper band.”
The possibility of Bitcoin rising higher than its current price has led to ambitious new BTC price targets being set for 2025 and beyond.
Bitcoin price could reach $350,000 in 2025.
According to Mauricio Di Bartolomeo, co-founder of Ledn, Bitcoin will continue to increase in value measured in gold, eventually reaching a price equivalent to 50 ounces of gold per BTC.
“I believe Bitcoin will continue to appreciate in gold terms and reach a price equivalent to 50 ounces of gold,” Bartolomeo wrote in a December 19 Forbes article.
This equates to a BTC price of $132,500 at current exchange rates.
“We expect to see a number of portfolio recommendations coming from ETF issuers’ research desks and registered investment advisors,” he said, urging clients to add Bitcoin to their portfolios.

According to a recent report from BlackRock, “Investors may prefer to use Bitcoin tactically to hedge against certain risks, similar to gold.”
Bartholomew said:
“A fully allocated investor looking to convert to a Bitcoin position may be inclined to reduce their gold position to make room since they are investing in the ‘digital’ version.”
Robert Kiyosaki, who has been advocating for the leading cryptocurrency since 2017, made an even more ambitious prediction.
Kiyosaki set a new goal in a December 18 post on
Kiyosaki’s figure is a more conservative estimate than Perianne Boring, founder of The Digital Chamber, who predicted $800,000 based on a stock-to-flow model. This surge would push Bitcoin’s market capitalization from its current value of over $2 trillion to around $15 trillion.
PlanB, creator of the stock-to-flow model, predicts that Bitcoin will have an average valuation of around $500,000 in 2025. But he said the price could go up to $1 million.
