The co-founder of Ethereum (ETH) competitor Solana (SOL) is reportedly facing a lawsuit over allegations that he misappropriated income from his ex-wife’s cryptocurrency assets.
Bloomberg reports that Elisa Rossi has filed a complaint in San Francisco Superior Court accusing her ex-husband Stephen Akridge of stealing millions of dollars worth of staking rewards from Solana tokens.
Staking rewards are similar to interest earned on bank deposits. Cryptocurrency holders who participate in the staking process lock up their assets for a certain period of time to validate blockchain transactions and earn more tokens as rewards.
The complaint said the dispute began after Akridge and Rossi filed for divorce in February 2023. Rossi alleges that Akridge operated and controlled the account in question from early March to mid-May and received all SOL token fees.
Rossi “took advantage of a significant gap in their cryptocurrency and blockchain expertise,” says Akridge, who was a senior engineer at Solana and is now CEO of California-based cybersecurity firm Cyber Grant.
The value of the tokens in dispute is blacked out in the lawsuit, but Rossi said a significant amount of money is involved. She is seeking damages, claiming Akridge engaged in breach of contract, unjust enrichment and fraud.
