NVIDIA and Red Hats provide a signed open GPU kernel module to improve the ease of security and deployment to improve the GPU driver support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.

NVIDIA and Red Hat have introduced signatures in the GPU driver support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (RHEL9) by introducing signed Open GPU kernel modules. According to the official blog of NVIDIA, this collaboration has moved one step ahead to simplify the distribution of NVIDIA graphics hardware.

Improvement of driver distribution

The new initiative is based on the pre -compiled NVIDIA driver introduced in 2020, providing a more easier path for companies to integrate NVIDIA’s Open GPU driver module. The module, which is now compiled and signed by Red Hat, does not require additional major registration configuration, especially in the data center environment for confidential computing support.

Technology preview and future availability

From RHEL 9.5 to NVIDIA, NVIDIA offers a pre -view repository that can be used until April 30, 2025. Using this repository, you can use the Open GPU driver and Modularity Stream to test the Open GPU driver and legacy driver. After the preview period, the signed module is included in the NVIDIA Compute package storage, along with the optimized applications in the CUDA-X library and CUDA.

Technology preview activation

To enable technology preview, users must activate specific Red Hat repository, including RHEL9 Appstream, Baseos and CRB. The stage includes adding CUDA network storage and installing the latest Open GPU stream. This process is simply designed to improve user experience and system compatibility.

Solving safe boot problems

Despite this development, NVIDIA recognizes problems related to Secure Boot. Legacy pre -compiled drivers must sign a key registration, and the key not included in the default trust chain can be signed and faced with a system that enables safe boot. It is recommended that the user follows the NVIDIA’s guidelines for the signature key registration to avoid confusion.

Conclusion and future prospects

Using the signature package of NVIDIA and Red Hat, safe boots with RHEL 9’s NVIDIA are ready to be greatly improved. This development enhances security and convenience, opening the way for further innovation of GPU distribution. The driver source code can be accessible from GitHub, so you can participate in community and custom solutions.
