Hive Digital Technologies, a prominent player in cryptocurrency mining, recently announced a significant expansion of its global operations. The company’s recent moves include acquiring new assets and a data center in Boden, Sweden. This acquisition will significantly increase Hive’s Bitcoin production capabilities.
The newly acquired property, which was previously part of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 project, is an important step in Hive’s expansion strategy. The company has signed an asset transfer agreement with Turis AB, underscoring its commitment to strengthening its position in the cryptocurrency mining landscape. Located near Hive’s existing data centers, this strategic location in Sweden is poised to become a key asset in the company’s portfolio.
In line with Hive’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the new data center in Sweden will adhere to the company’s green energy practices. Johanna Thornblad, Hive’s country president for Sweden, emphasized that this expansion is evidence of Hive’s commitment to environmental responsibility and energy efficiency. The facility is expected to house next-generation Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) servers, a critical component in boosting Bitcoin production.
In a strategic shift earlier this year, Hive Digital Technologies rebranded by dropping the term “blockchain” from its official name. The move signals the company’s focus on financial opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing and graphics processing units (GPUs). Despite the emphasis on AI, Hive is deeply involved in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining, with leadership that confirms the synergistic coexistence of blockchain and AI as a pillar of Web3.
Hive Digital Technologies’ acquisition of data centers in Boden, Sweden represents an important milestone in its global expansion strategy. Hive is ready to leverage its commitment to green energy and innovative practices to enhance Bitcoin production while contributing to the sustainable growth of the cryptocurrency industry.
This acquisition is consistent with Hive’s broader industry initiatives. Previously, Hive participated in the launch of the Digital Power Network (DPN), highlighting the importance of Proof-of-Work (PoW) mining in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. The company also plans to use 38,000 Nvidia GPUs to provide a more efficient alternative for small and medium-sized businesses and emphasize versatility and adaptability in the evolving digital environment.
