TETHER announced that it will gradually abolish USDT support for five trivial blockchains, such as Omni, BCH SLP, Kusama, EOS and Algorand. The USDT repayment for this legacy blockchain will be completely suspended on September 1, 2025.
This decision occurs to increase the effort to simplify the operation and focus on the utility network. Such a network is no longer consistent with the infrastructure priority and strategic direction of Tether.
Tether’s decision is based on a comprehensive review of blockchain data, market demand and feedback from community stakeholders and infrastructure partners, which played a basic role in the early growth of tethers, but the amount of USDT has been greatly rejected over the past two years.
The largest stable company based on market caps prioritizes the aggressive ecosystem that provides scalability, strong developer community and better integrated potential.
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, said in a statement that tethers wants to maintain relevance and efficiency as the industry continues to change and grow. By supporting the ending of the old blockchain, tether can focus on networks, money and technical resources more active, expanding and widely used by developers and users.
In the affected blockchain, tethered users with USDT should repay or request holding or requesting blockchains supported by the company’s service terms.
The company plans to expand its support for layer 2 networks that improve interoperability and speed, including Lightning Network and other emerging block chains.
The tether pointed out that he continues to explore the partnership with the blockchain ecosystem, which has a strong user activity and developer.
