Ethereum is a living entity distributed across time and space and accessible through screens and communication devices. What brings it to life are the many human relationships intertwined with the roots, branches, and leaves of the Ethereum state tree. This single tree encodes an enormous amount of value, digital assets, and dapp utility, rather than an insignificant part of human activity.
However, the humans who are currently breathing life into Ethereum are every The many gaps between humans – cultures, nationalities and classes – need to be bridged. The use cases and new solutions that web3 builders have developed, advertised, and touted so far do not yet represent Ethereum’s true potential to enable human flourishing. We have not yet scratched the surface of the possibility space..
We believe the visionaries are out there. We believe that those who understand and fight against coordination failure can offer a glimpse of hope. They have a lever to move the world, and Ethereum could be their lever. For Ethereum to reach the next billion humans, it must be useful not only to tech optimists, but also to: Everyone On this messy and complex human planet.
communion
We believe it is possible to use Ethereum to improve the lives of billions of people. But we need more than technology. We need new ways of thinking about how humans interact with each other and the environment. We need new stories to tell, new visions for a better future, and new ways to express our values in code.
The Ethereum Foundation’s Next Billion Fellowship is about finding stories. It’s a story that will inspire you to focus on what’s important, find balance and fairness in the way you solve problems, and delve deeper into the mysteries of human cooperation. .
We are looking for changemakers, visionaries and pragmatists. We are looking for stories that represent the best of ourselves to better imagine a world where we can take tools in hand, roll up our sleeves, and begin the long, difficult task of pulling the world out of its death spiral of harmony.
It’s okay to start with experiments, pilots, and studies. Stories of invalidated hypotheses, underestimated challenges, and misaligned incentives are invaluable in exploring new change systems. We are at the beginning of a very long journey into uncharted territory. Cartmaking is a difficult and worthwhile endeavor.
Fellows may work as individuals or as part of a larger organization. Some friends may be building their own buildings; We design and test new technologies to help solve old problems.. Others might special interest in specific human situations, share our findings with other builders in the Ethereum community and help design better solutions. The Next Billion Fellowship project has no strict requirements other than enthusiasm.
The next Billion Fellows will have a personal quest. A fellowship is neither the beginning nor the end of a journey, but it can provide support that moves fellows closer to their ambitious goals. Whatever the project or who the colleagues are, the inquiry must be rooted in the public interest.

next billion
The Ethereum Foundation’s Team Next Billion is working to find what enables and what blocks Ethereum’s next billion users. We scout the edges of the public interest space to find new use cases, contexts, and communities that reveal how Ethereum can become the tool for the next billions.
