Millions of dollars of high-value NFTs, including rare Bored Ape and Mutant Ape Yacht Club tokens, World of Women NFTs, VeeFriends, Art Blocks, and more, were stolen in a massive hack of peer-to-peer trading platform NFT Trader earlier today. .
The company confirmed in the X user foobar claimed that the attack was completed after NFT Trader updated its smart contract to fix a reconnection vulnerability.
The apparent primary attacker posted a public message on the blockchain, pinning the invention of the NFT exploit on other users and claiming that the attack was just “picking up leftover trash.” The attacker offered to return the tokens to the victim after receiving a ransom of 3 eth per Bored Ape and 0.6 eth per Mutant Ape. The attackers also made a series of confusing moves, including refunding one Bored Ape and 31 eth to one user while retaining the ApeCoin rewards, and returning certain staked Bored Apes to their owners.
In addition to the primary hacker, secondary hacks have been reported that drain tokens such as Cool Cats and Squiggles from users’ wallets. NFT Trader did not immediately respond to The Block’s request for comment.
