According to ’s code and white paper, UK High Court Judge James Mellor said in a written ruling on Monday:

In the filing, Judge Mellor detailed his March ruling that Wright, who claims to be Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, was not a pseudonym developer. The ruling cited Wright’s “clumsy…manipulation” and “falsification” of “extensive” documents as the basis for its decision.

“All of Wright’s lies and forged documents supported his biggest lie: his claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto,” Judge Mellor said in a written ruling Monday.

The ruling concludes a years-long legal battle over intellectual rights to the Bitcoin blockchain and database. During the trial, the defense presented the court with “intended” evidence supporting Wright’s claim that he was Satoshi. This includes documents containing fonts that did not exist when they were created, as well as metadata that shows parts of the font. According to the ruling, the document was written just before the trial.

The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) first filed suit against Wright in February 2021, seeking to prevent the notorious litigant from asserting unfair copyright claims over Bitcoin’s whitepaper and code.

Since 2019, Wright has sued several developers in an attempt to gain ownership of the Bitcoin network and silence criticism of his claims. According to the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund, these lawsuits have threatened the future of Bitcoin by hindering developers from building blockchains.

In his ruling, Judge Mellor acknowledged the impact of Wright’s aggressive legal strategy on Bitcoin developers, and cited the self-proclaimed nature of Satoshi’s lawsuit as another basis for ruling in favor of COPA.

“Due to his cooperative and non-confrontational nature, we believe it is highly unlikely that Satoshi would have resorted to litigation against the developer,” Judge Mellor said. “Satoshi would have recognized that differences of opinion lead to hard forks. He moved on to Bitcoin Blockchain.”
