Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly pivotal role in solving the world’s most pressing challenges, from advancing medicine to preserving the environment. According to NVIDIA, NVIDIA has been at the forefront of this revolution by leveraging its comprehensive compute stack, including GPUs, CPUs, DPUs and software, to support innovative solutions globally.
Surgeon support
In the medical field, AI is also increasing surgical precision. Illinois-based startup SimBioSys has developed TumorSight Viz, a groundbreaking technology that converts MRI images into 3D models of breast tissue. This innovation allows surgeons to visualize breast tumors and surrounding tissue in greater detail, potentially improving treatment outcomes for breast cancer patients.
Save life and energy
Known for its significant contributions to the Human Genome Project, the Wellcome Sanger Institute leverages NVIDIA’s accelerated computing to analyze thousands of cancer genomes each year. This technology not only reduces the time required for genome analysis but also reduces energy consumption, providing important insights into cancer formation and treatment efficacy.
cleaning water
Conservation efforts are also benefiting from AI advancements. Clearbot, an AI-based ocean cleaning vessel developed by University of Hong Kong graduates, autonomously collects marine debris. Clearbot, based on the NVIDIA Jetson platform, operates in Hong Kong and India and is helping keep waterways in popular tourist destinations clean.
Green recycling plant
AI is also having a big impact on recycling. British startup Greyparrot introduced the Greyparrot Analyser, an AI device that improves recycling efficiency by providing ‘waste intelligence’. With built-in cameras and machine learning capabilities, the technology identifies and sorts materials on conveyor belts in recycling plants.
Driving technological advancement in Africa
In Africa, AI is fueling technological growth through a new innovation hub in Tunisia. Launched in partnership with the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute, the hub aims to train 100,000 developers across the continent, drive AI adoption and support technological advancements across a variety of sectors.
These diverse initiatives highlight the potential of AI as a catalyst for positive change across industries and regions. By providing professionals with advanced tools and fostering innovation, AI is not only improving operational efficiency but also contributing to a more sustainable and healthy planet.
