The Altair Beacon Chain Upgrade is ready to go live on the Ethereum mainnet. Upgrades apply in epochs. 74240 (October 27, 2021, 10:56:23 AM UTC).
client version
To be compatible with Altair upgrades, beacon node operators must ~ have to Please update the client version they are running. When I run the validator I get ~ have to Upgrade to continue following the mainnet beacon chain. Failure to do so will result in downtime penalties.
The versions listed below support mainnet Altair upgrades.
Edit: The following table has been edited to refer to the latest Altair client release prior to the mainnet upgrade. It includes security patches and optimizations and is recommended. every Users upgrade to the latest version.
* Client releases marked with an asterisk have changed since their original announcement.
Upgrades for Validators
This upgrade has been extensively tested if you are a validator on the mainnet, but we recommend that you remain online during the upgrade period in case any unexpected issues arise.
Bug Bounty Bonus
To attract more attention to the Altair upgrade, bounties for all vulnerabilities related to the Altair upgrade have been doubled between now and four weeks after launch (November 27th). A serious Altair bug, both client and spec, is now worth up to $100,000.

frequently asked questions
Is there anything I need to do as an Ethereum user or Ethereum holder?
This upgrade is purely for the beacon chain consensus mechanism and will: ~ no Affects end-user accounts, contracts, and states secured by the proof-of-work chain.
If you run your own beacon nodes, you will need to upgrade your nodes. See “What do I do as a non-validator beacon node operator?” below. See section.
What do I do as a beacon node operator and not as a validator?
Download the latest version of the Beacon Node client as listed in the table above.
What should I do as a validator?
Download the latest version of the software you are running as listed in the table above. Follow the instructions in the release and restart the node using standard restart procedures.
Node software supporting the independent validator client requires an upgrade and this component also requires a restart. Please read the warnings and instructions included in the official release.
What happens if I am a validator or node operator and do not participate in the upgrade?
If you are using a beacon node client that has not been updated to the latest version (listed above), your client will be in sync with the prefork beacon chain when the upgrade occurs. If you follow the old rules, you’ll be stuck in an incompatible chain.
If you run a validator, the validator will not be able to participate in the upgraded consensus and will continue to operate on the Beacon Chain network after the upgrade. This will result in a penalty for the upgraded mainnet chain.
What happens during a Beacon Chain network upgrade?
After the Ethereum community reaches a consensus on what changes should be included in the upgrade, protocol changes are recorded in various clients. Beacon chain protocol changes are activated at specific epoch numbers. Any nodes that are not upgraded to the new rule set will be discarded from the old chain where old rules may still exist.
Why “Altair”?
later community discussion Through an emoji vote, the client team decided to use a star name for each upgrade, with the upgrade names ordered alphabetically.
Altair, which begins with the letter “A”, is the 12th brightest star in the night sky and spins very quickly at an equatorial speed of 286 km/s. forbidden planet. A pretty cool star if you ask us.
thank you!
A huge thank you to all the researchers, engineers, and community members who put a tremendous amount of effort into this first beacon chain network upgrade.
Now proceed with the merge 🚀
