This new approach aims to transform blockspace auctions from a traditional primary price mechanism to a mechanism similar to the Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG) mechanism. The proposed system allows searchers to recoup a portion of their bids if the submitted bundle is deemed important to securing the builder’s auction.
A revolution in auction dynamics
The key to Kilbourn’s research is changing the incentive structure for searchers. By enabling refunds, searchers are encouraged to submit bundles through the refund mechanism instead of choosing a builder that utilizes the standard single price mechanism. These changes aim to promote a more decentralized and competitive ecosystem, responding to the natural tendency of builders and searchers to integrate vertically.
