KOR Protocol, an Animoca Brands-backed startup looking to disrupt the entertainment industry, has unveiled a new streaming service called KOR Player, and DJs including Joel Zimmerman (better known as deadmau5), Plastkman, Inder Phull, Ben Turner, and Dean Wilson have joined as early backers.
KOR Player lets you play and remix music using a suite of tools, including a “sound library” vault for intellectual property where artists upload samples. It also integrates artificial intelligence to authenticate the music’s origins and pay royalties in cryptocurrency.
According to a press release, KOR aims to “resolve the gray areas around music copyright law and unlicensed IP use in video games, live streaming, esports broadcasting, and other channels that attract large audiences, while providing artists and labels with a new distribution channel to reach fans and monetize their work.”
The startup claims to have 550,000 users signed up, and counts Japanese telecom giant KDDI as an early backer.
Animoca Brands has previously invested in hundreds of other startups, including Yuga Labs, Axie Infinity, Polygon, Consensys, and Magic Eden.
