Last year, after a three-year hiatus, we emerged from the pandemic stronger than before. Reunited in Bogotá the biggest and part will be say“best There is no Devcon yet.” Since then we’ve often been asked “wen Devcon 7?” But we have some news for you today! 😃 🎉

We are excited to announce that Devcon 7 will be released in Southeast Asia in 2024! 🎊
Before you ask if our year is correct, let me tell you why Devcon 7 is scheduled for 2024. We thought long and hard about this. Here’s why:
1) Greater influence 🌏
One of the strongest aspects of Devcon VI in Bogotá was the participation of the thriving Latin American Ethereum community. Over the course of three years, we have had a lot of time to collaborate with local communities, support and empower them, and create maximum impact on the local Ethereum community.
We aim to have the same impact on Road to Devcon 7 in Southeast Asia and give the burgeoning Ethereum community there more time to further mature and develop. We look forward to seeing new grassroots communities unfold. 🌱
2) Bigger meaning 🎉
Devcon VI in Bogota set the bar high for community engagement, quality of content and updates, and the production itself. Scheduling Devcon 7 in 2024 will give you time and maintain your level for the following reasons:
- Projects and protocols will have time to evolve and improve, so presenters will have something truly important to share.
- Spending more time creating and ideating will help you make your event the best it can be again.
- A slower rhythm could make the event more accessible to people who want to participate but don’t want to (or can’t) attend Devcon every year.
- The longer you wait, the more excited you become! 😁
3) Accept subtraction 🤲
This year, more Ethereum events and communities are popping up around the world than ever before. In conclusion, we are positive that holding Devcon 7 in 2024 will be beneficial as it increases the total impact it will have on each attendee and the community as a whole.
Southeast Asia and Ethereum 🌏
As a major event, Devcon focuses on reuniting everyone, connecting with external communities, sharing important messages and updates, and welcoming newcomers to Ethereum.
Ethereum is global, and bringing Devcon to Southeast Asia aligns with our goal of reaching more local Ethereum communities and increasing diversity within the overall Ethereum community. Despite the fact that cryptocurrencies are more practically used in Southeast Asia, the Ethereum community is in many ways still dominated by the West. To illustrate this, four countries within Southeast Asia are ranked in the top 20. Global Cryptocurrency Adoption IndexVietnam and the Philippines took first and second places.
There are huge untapped and continuing growing opportunities in Southeast Asia, similar to what we have seen in South America.
Devcon 7 in Southeast Asia therefore provides an opportunity for a large, new, active and diverse community to be given a platform on the global Ethereum stage.
👉 By the way, we are still evaluating specific locations within Southeast Asia and the final decision will depend on a number of factors. Some of them are as simple as venue availability. Some Southeast Asian communities have already submitted great proposals (and are still being considered!) We want to explore the diverse cultures of Southeast Asia and the many different places in the region, from the bustling streets of Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur to the beautiful beaches of Bali and Phuket, and the majestic mountains of Vietnam.
Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone who submitted suggestions for Devcon 7 locations on the forums. They were very helpful, it was not an easy decision, and their suggestions will be useful not only at Devcon but also at many Ethereum community events for years to come.
