It’s always nice to hear about new grants being awarded. But what happens after the announcement? In this series, we’ll look at projects that are well underway or already at the finish line. Read on to learn about our grantees’ recent milestones and achievements!

If applicable, grant recipients are listed first, followed by the project for which the grant was awarded.

fuel lab for Optimistic roll-up R&D, SparsENS

Fuel Labs is best known for its work on UTXO-based designs for scalable, minimal-trust optimistic rollups. This multitasking team is also developing SparsENS, a stateless ENS subdomain registrar that aims to reduce transaction costs for ENS subdomain registrations. Fuel Labs’ grant went toward both of these efforts, which have achieved several important milestones in recent months.

Keep an eye on the SparsENS testnet later in the year and watch for Fuel. roadmap Check out new features and future version releases!

nomic labs for Biller today

Hardhat, previously known as Buidler, is a flexible and extensible development environment. Recent Hard Hats release This marks a major advancement in the protocol and a new chapter for a project that has matured from a side project into an indispensable tool for Ethereum developers. This release includes many improvements and new features, including:

  • mainnet fork Simulate mainnet conditions in your local development environment.
  • smooth integration Perform advanced debugging and monitoring directly from Hardhat workflows
  • Revamped compilation pipeline Improved compilation speed and the ability to configure arbitrarily complex compilation settings
  • Improved support for ethers.js and Typescript
  • And many more! You can find the full list here here.

Hardhat releases contain breaking changes, so upgrade If you are working with an older version of Buidler!

Hubble Optimistic Rollup Hub

Hubble allows you to deploy programmable optimistic rollup chains within a single hub, allowing users to instantly and inexpensively move between chains within the rollup space. The initial Hubble grant was recently completed and final milestones include:

  • Launch of a transfer-only testnet with bulk deposits, single withdrawals, CLI and REST API, on-chain verification, and fraud protection
  • Testnet upgrades including transaction and deposit fees, BLS signatures, variable length balances and PDA trees
  • Documentation for Hubble libraries, APIs, and commands

Hubble will continue to advance over time. In fact, a second grant was recently awarded to develop a front-end interface that allows users to interact with Hubble’s BLS signature scheme. Hubble is not owned by any one person or project, but you can follow its progress very actively. Hubble Project Github Repo!

We promised to keep this post light, but we can’t resist adding a few more things.

The list continues to grow, so we’ll be back next month for another round!
