Bitcoimex is a fraudulent DApp used by scammers to convince unsuspecting investors to part with their cash.

The scam usually begins with the victim being contacted and befriended by a stranger on a social media platform such as Facebook or WhatsApp.

The new ‘friend’ will soon turn the conversation to cryptocurrency investments and provide victims with details of DApps that can be accessed through mainstream cryptocurrency wallets such as Trust Wallet.

However, DApps are actually dummy platforms that scammers use to mimic trading apps and convince victims to give up their money.

At first, the victim’s account appears to profit and they may initially withdraw small amounts.

However, if you try to withdraw your balance, the scammer will block your withdrawal and often insist that you pay a certain ‘fee’.

However, this is another ploy by scammers to extract more money from victims. Any additional cash paid is also lost.

There are various issues that reveal the Bitcoimex DApp to be fake.

These include:

  • Amateur design with poor quality, pixelated images.
  • The claim is that revenue is generated from USDT mining pools. USDT cannot be mined.
  • A very new domain name means your site is likely to be shut down quickly.
  • You will be introduced to the platform by new ‘friends’ online.
  • Platform name and tab URL do not match. The platform is called Bitcoimex and the tab says the site is BitMEX.
  • When you visit the platform from your desktop or laptop, it will automatically attempt to connect to your cryptocurrency wallet.
  • There are no social media accounts associated with Bitcoimex.

Can I get my stolen funds back from Bitcoimex?

Unfortunately, cryptocurrencies lost on platforms like Bitcoimex are often quickly moved to dozens of other anonymous accounts, making them very difficult to track.

There are also private companies that can help, as I wrote here.
