Bitstamp is registered as a cryptocurrency exchange in France.
One of the most sophisticated EU regimes has recognized Binance, Bitpanda, and Société Générale.
Bitstamp has officially registered with the French Financial Markets Authority, according to the regulator’s website.
It joins Binance, Bitpanda, and Société Générale’s Forge division in the EU’s most sophisticated crypto regime.
Upon registration, company management must be competent, reputable and comply with money laundering regulations.
Bitstamp, based in Luxembourg, London and New York, is already registered in Spain and Italy. The European cryptocurrency sector is currently awaiting the introduction of MiCA, the EU’s Crypto Asset Market Regulation, which will impose strict reserve and investor information requirements on cryptocurrency services such as wallets and exchanges.
To bridge the transition to MiCA, French lawmakers are proposing to segregate customer assets and manage conflicts of interest in unregistered companies serving the French market following the collapse of FTX.
