- Rollup-as-a-Service platform Caldera is launching Guardian Nodes, a production-ready node system that allows network users to verify rollup blocks for rewards.
- HYCHAIN, the first team to leverage this system with Caldera, generated $8 million in initial node sales.
Caldera, a leading Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS) platform, currently supports over 50 EVM rollups (including Manta, Injective inEVM, Kinto, HYCHAIN, Treasure, and ApeChain), securing up to $1 billion in aggregate value. there is.
Along with the core rollup infrastructure, Caldera offers over 50 integrated catalogs across its modular stack and a suite of other customizable user-facing tools for chains to leverage.
Guardian Node is the most recent addition to that list.
background
Most L1 blockchains today operate using a proof-of-stake model. In this model, chain participants are incentivized through network rewards to lend their stake and validate the chain.
This incentive structure promotes decentralization by incentivizing individual stakers to run honest validators while punishing those who do not, creating very high costs for attacking the network and compromising its security.
Roll-up decentralization
The EVM rollup has virtually solved the scalability problem by enabling virtually infinite scaling over Ethereum’s L2 and L3. However, there is still no incentive for honest network participants to monitor these rollups.
Caldera’s Guardian Nodes allow the team to decentralize rollups by allowing users to verify blocks and secure the network in exchange for rewards. Internally, this is achieved by introducing a new “light verifier” in the Arbitrum rollup that allows Guardian Node operators to verify Nitro placements on everyday hardware without the need to run a full node.
Teams can launch Guardian Nodes to users through “node sales,” where they distribute “keys” that authenticate the node’s eligibility to submit claims and receive rewards, and buyers can then operate Guardian Nodes in certain rollups. You are given abilities.
HYCHAIN, the first team to leverage this system, raised over $8 million from over 16,000 node keys in just two weeks, generating significant revenue for the project while fully strengthening the community.
Network security becomes stronger by allowing more parties to monitor rollups and identify malicious behavior. This is an important step in establishing trust in the accuracy of the chain. This in turn creates more demand for the rollup’s native token. This is required for users to participate in verification and helps provide real cryptoeconomic security to the network.
Guardians Nodes are another level in Caldera’s impressive belt of infrastructure solutions. With the success of the HYCHAIN launch, we expect more teams to build rollups to take advantage of this innovative product in the coming months.
