Blockchain-based video game projects have been exploring ways to make it easier for users to play games without being distracted by crypto-related elements. In that vein, Shrapnel, one of the most anticipated games ahead of its wide release, has implemented an integration that allows players to purchase SHRAP, the game’s utility token, using credit or debit cards.
Previously, players could only obtain SHRAP tokens through exchanges, according to the statement. “Now, with Halliday’s integration with Onramp, players can quickly and easily convert fiat to SHRAP using Moonpay or Stripe as their payment gateway,” he said.
“Halliday removes a major web3 friction point, allowing players to use their credit cards like any other free-to-play game,” said Shrapnel CEO Mark Long.
Gaming has long played a pivotal role in driving blockchain and mainstream trading of digital assets. However, until now, there has been no truly mainstream cryptocurrency-backed video game that could challenge the status quo – the closed ecosystem seen in gaming platforms like “Roblox” and “Fortnite.”
Making it easier to purchase SHRAP tokens will drive more activity in games built using the layer 1 blockchain Avalanche. Players use SHRAP tokens to purchase in-game assets.
According to Messari, Shrapnel is already making an impact. “(Avalanche’s) average daily transactions continued to trend upward in the first quarter, increasing 43% quarter-over-quarter,” according to the report. “Part of this increase was due to a strong quarter for Shrapnel, a first-person shooter with a subnet for in-game transactions.”
In February, an early access version of Shrapnel was released on the Epic Games Store.
