Runestones are raining. The highly anticipated Runestones airdrop took place late Thursday, sending Ordinal inscriptions to over 112,000 Bitcoin wallets.

According to Inscription marketplace Ordi, collectors wishing to receive runestones via airdrop should go to the Bitcoin Ordinals platform, enter their wallet address, and sort by most recent.
“This is a decentralized, 100% volunteer effort. I tweeted the idea last month to do a large airdrop to reward the Ordinals community for its first anniversary,” Leonidas previously said. decryption. “More than 10 companies in the Ordinals ecosystem contributed funding, engineering resources, etc. to make this happen,” he added.
According to the Ordi Twitter account, runestones will be mined and distributed to the Year 1 Ordinals community in 81 batches of 1,400 over the next 48 hours.
“Remember, you earned the runestone by showing up and participating in the Ordinal when no one else did,” Leonidas said. “This was the only way to get runestones and there were no team allocations or pre-sales.”
In a series of tweets, Leonidas updated Runestone collectors about the airdrop program.
“Over the last 45 minutes, four bundles of 1,400 runestones have been engraved and sent to destination addresses,” Leonidas said as the airdrop began. “Everything seems to be going smoothly. “There are 76 batches left out of 1,400, which are expected to take up to 24 more hours.”
Behind the scenes, Leonidas highlighted Runestone partner Ordinalsbots, who are working to execute the remaining large-scale epitaph airdrops. Leonidas also noted that Ordinals marketplaces, including Magic Eden and Ordinalswallet, are working to index Runestone inscriptions so they can be traded on secondary markets.

Earlier this month, The Runestone, the largest ordinal inscription, went up for auction, with a block size of 3.97 MB. The winning bid for The Runestone, engraved with the words 63,140,674, was 8 BTC, or approximately $572,973.
