Chiliz and Atlético de Madrid expand partnership
In a pioneering move that marks the start of a new phase of Fan Token utility, Chiliz, the leading blockchain provider for the sports industry, and Atletico Madrid have agreed to expand their partnership. The goal of this collaboration is to strengthen the Atlético Madrid Fan Token and make it more accessible to fans through the club’s official app and digital ecosystem.
This expanded partnership provides Atlético Madrid Fan Token holders with more benefits along with more rewards. Crucially, this will allow fans to access opportunities linked to their Fan Token holdings through the club’s official app.
Fan Token Experience
Available in beta from today, the Fan Token experience integrates the Socios.com ecosystem into the Atlético de Madrid platform and enhances it with new features designed specifically for Atlético de Madrid fans. Daily fan polls and trivia quizzes will be launched allowing fans to earn points that can be exchanged for a variety of rewards and experiences linked to the club.
These points also give fans who do not yet have Atlético de Madrid Fan Tokens the opportunity to get their first token for free. Integrating Fan Tokens into the club’s digital ecosystem opens up new frontiers in the adoption of web3 technology.
Partnership Impact
The expanded partnership between Chiliz and Atlético Madrid comes five years after the Rojiblancos became the first Spanish club to launch official fan tokens, setting a trend that other major La Liga clubs will soon follow. Since then, Atletico Madrid Fan Tokens have enabled fans in more than 120 countries to participate in dozens of fan-related decisions through binding fan votes.
More than 2,000 rewards were available to Fan Token holders, ranging from autographed merchandise and free tickets to exclusive experiences like participation in the team’s official season photo. Alejandro Ugarrio, Director of Atleti Lab, expressed his excitement about the new integration with Socios.com, saying it aligns perfectly with their strategy to improve the experience of fans around the world.
Chiliz and Alexandre Dreyfus, founder and CEO of Socios.com, also spoke about the important steps taken in the adoption of Fan Tokens and digital assets by first-tier sports teams. He emphasized that Atlético is leading the way in providing digital benefits to fans, opening a new stage of the Fan Token journey.
